First Announcement and Call for Papers
The 15th EISCAT International Workshop
5 – 9 September2011,Qingdao,China
The EISCAT Scientific Association is an international research organization that operates some of the world's most advanced incoherent scatter radars and other ground-based facilities for probing of the space environment in the auroral zone, in northernScandinavia. The first agreement to establish and fund EISCAT was signed in 1975 by six European research councils fromFinland,France,Germany,Norway,SwedenandUK. The radar facility was inaugurated on 26 August, 1981.Japanhas been full member of the association from 1996.Chinajoined the association in 2006.
Biennial EISCAT International Workshops have been organized since 1983. The 15th EISCAT International Workshop will be held inQingdao,China, 5–9 September 2011, hosted by the China Research Institute of Radiowave Propagation (CRIRP). A ceremony for the 30thanniversary of the EISCAT measurements will highlight the Workshop.
The workshop sessions will cover new results from areas including space weather, solar-magnetosphere-ionosphere-atmosphere coupling, high-latitude ionosphere, mesosphere and thermosphere, meteors and space debris, ionospheric modification, and especially both traditional and novel applications of the EISCAT and other incoherent scatter radars in the world. In addition to the sessions concerning scientific progress there will be sessions on new radar plans and techniques (e.g. EISCAT_3D, the new Antarctic radar, the 3rdESR antenna, collaboration with satellites).
We welcome scientists and students all over the world to attend the workshop presenting the latest research achievements. Oral or poster contributions are both welcome. The abstract deadline is 31 May, 2011. The invitation letters will be sent together with the acceptance notification of abstract to each contributor for application of visa toChina.
