报告摘要:Van Allen radiation belts are typically two zones of energetic particles encircling the Earth separated by the slot region with low particle fluxes. How the outer radiation belt electrons are accelerated to relativistic energies remains an unanswered question. On 30 August 2012, NASA launched a twin-spacecraft mission, Van Allen Probes, to make the measurements for the identification of acceleration mechanisms. Here we review the latest progress on the wave-driven acceleration and transport of radiation belt electrons based on both quasilinear simulations and Van Allen Probes observations. Our results show that, both ULF wave-driven radial diffusion and VLF wave-driven local acceleration can play roles in the radiation belt electron dynamics, and their relative importance depends on the specific interplanetary and magnetospheric conditions.
