Research Summary

Dr. Ding Yuan investigates the Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves in the solar atmosphere: their roles in coronal heating, solar wind generation and remote diagnostics of solar plasma. He focuses on observational study of MHD wave coupling of sunspots and active regions, and probes the MHD wave dynamics and seismology in response to periodic (i.e., seismic waves or granulation) or impulsive sources (i.e., flares, CMEs). The data are obtained from the fine resolution imaging and spectroscopic instruments (SDO/AIA, Hinode, IRIS). MHD simulations with high performance supercomputers are implemented to understand the core physics.
