International workshop on geospace disturbance and M-I-T coupling,

Shandong University, Weihai, China, September 12-15, 2015

Geospace disturbances take different forms, depending significantly on location. With a system science perspective, however, variations in polar, subauroral and equatorial latitudes are merely various components of the coupling magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere system. We are organizing an international workshop with a scientific goal to address key M-I-T coupling processes responsible for geospace disturbances.  We invite presentations that demonstrate new achievements in furthering our understanding of the geospace system by using ground-based and in-situ observations, and modeling techniques. Some of the proposed topics to be covered include:

1. Polar ionization patches as M-I coupling tracers;

2. Ionospheric upflow and outflow processes;

3. High-latitude plasma and neutral convections;

4. Subauroral M-I-T coupling;

5. Inner-magnetospheric and plasmaspheric energetic particles and ionospheric effects.

This workshop will be held during September 12-15, 2015 in Shandong University  (Weihai), China. Shandong University (Weihai) has vigorous space science research programs in the Center for Space Weather Sciences covering a variety of aspects in solar, magnetospheric and ionospheric areas. More information about the Center may be found here. General information about Weihai may be found here.

We are currently at the early stage of organizing this workshop. Please send your suggestions and comments to the meeting conveners, Prof. Qinghe Zhang (Shandong University, China) and Dr. Shunrong Zhang (MIT Haystack Observatory, USA).  Prof. Qinghe Zhang will be serving as the local organizer and may be reached at zhangqinghe@sdu.edu.cn.
